Report

Very difficult conditions this week for the last match of the season in heavy rain which turned the pitch into a mud bath.  Fishburn were strong from the start and soon made it through the kirkby defence to score.  Kirkby didn't give up though, and several periods of possession paid off when Max found the back of the net when Thomas lobbed the ball into the area.  It stayed 1-1 until half time, and the lads came back on for the second half with everything to play for.  Unfortunately, Fishburn remained strong and were able to score 3 more during the second half, but not without more good sections of play and passing from Kirkby who created numerous chances to score, but were never able to make it count.  Credit should go to to Finn, who played well whilst battling in a goal mouth bog, but also to Joe, Jonah, Jacob, Thomas, Max, Jake and substitute Ethan who all played their part in tricky conditions.  Final score 1-4.

The friendly match was much of the same with Fishburn playing strongly, and they soon made it through to score several times, mainly on the break, although Harry, man of the match Dylan, Finn, Joe, Ethan, goalie Max, Jonah, Elliott and especially George, all battled excellently against the tide.  The first half ended with the score at 0-3.  The second half saw a goalie swap, with George now holding the fort, and only one more went past him before a long period of possession by Kirkby resulted in a corner kick.  Ethan took it strongly, and it found the head of Jonah waiting in the centre, concluding in (I think) the only headed goal of the season for kirkby, and a very muddy head!  It stayed at 1-4 until the final whistle ended the soggiest fixture to date, and the lads were glad to get home to be warmed up.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate all the boys for their efforts this season, and also convey many thanks to Dave and John for giving up lots of their spare time to train this promising squad.  Lets hope that their continued improvement flows through to the seasons ahead, and they enjoy the success they deserve in the years to come.
